This is a demo

Every number on this page is made up. The prices, the options, the trades and the date were written by a small program for this demo. Nothing here is a real market, a real day or real data, and DEMO is not a real ticker. The day shown is dated 6 March 2030, which has not happened.

What is real is the page. These are the screens of LucentOptions, drawn by the same code, playing through one invented session and starting again at its end.

Playing the day

The line at the foot of the page shows the demo's clock in New York time. Pause stops the day, and the menu beside it sets how fast it runs. The space bar pauses and plays as well. The day starts again after its close, and also when you change the layout.

What the screens show

Gamma landscape: price runs up the side and the day runs across. Each cell answers one question: if the price were here at this minute, what would the total gamma of today's options be? Cyan is positive, magenta is negative, and brighter is more. The yellow line is the flip, where it changes sign. Right of the dashed line is a projection to the close, made with only the clock moved.

Levels chart: the price through the session with three kinds of level on it as bands. Gamma zones are ranked, GEX 1 being the largest by net gamma in either direction. Charm max and charm min are the strikes with the most positive and the most negative modelled charm. Off-exchange zones are the pockets the Off-exchange map finds. Max pain is a thin line of its own: the price at which the options of the nearest expiry would pay their holders the least.

Gamma if volatility shifts: the same reading asked another question: what would the total gamma be at each price if implied volatility were lower or higher than it was? It describes the model. It does not say what volatility or price will do.

Strike by expiry map: strikes down the side, the nearest expiries across the top, one cell for each. Colour shows the sign and brightness the size.

GEX profile and exposure by strike: the same positions at one moment, strike by strike. The call wall is the strike holding the most call gamma above the price, and the put wall the most put gamma below it.

Off-exchange map and ladder: where volume that traded away from the exchanges gathered through the day, shown as pockets of light, and how it compares with the volume on the exchanges at each price. Totals only.

Open interest: how many contracts are open at each strike and in each expiry.

Coming next

The last section of the start screen lists pictures that are being worked on. They are not in this demo, and their cards open nothing.

What it rests on

Gamma is shown from the dealers' side on the usual assumption that dealers are long the calls and short the puts that customers trade. That is an assumption, not something any data shows.

The pictures describe where positions sit. They do not say what the price will do next.
